New Der Zyklus 12"

There will be a new Der Zyklus 12” on No Comment Platform soon. In fact the track is already up on their Soundcloud at a link below. Clone have been listing this for awhile now but without any audio or further details. From what I can understand there will be an Albert van Abbe remix of the track as well. In 2011 No Comment put out a 12" with a Heinrich Mueller remix of a van Abbe original so this could be the return gesture. It will be out in May. You can read my post on it here. No Comment pressings are usually very limited so it’s nice to get to actually hear it online too. Albert van Abbe has also been working with Dopplereffekt on their visuals for their Neutrino a/v presentation.

Their SoundCloud has been updated to inform us that the track is called 'Von Neumann Replicator'. It also has the following text: John von Neumann's Universal Constructor is a self-replicating machine in a cellular automata (CA) environment. It was designed in the 1940s, without the use of a computer. The fundamental details of the machine were published in von Neumann's book Theory of Self-Reproducing Automata, completed in 1966 by Arthur W. Burks after von Neumann's death.

This translation of the French text for the event with The Hacker was done by one of my readers, Yogan.

Dopplereffekt, an historically major figure on the techno scene will be performing live at Club Transbo this thursday february the 23rd. The American producer, originally from Detroit but currently living in Germany for the past 10 years or so, is expected to shed light on the mystique surrounding his identity as well as introducing his vision of an ideal society with a rather dark electronic music, heavy atmospheres and definitive claims.

This duo show may well be appealing for those who developed a true sense of electronic music though the curious party-goer won't be disappointed. This highly anticipated show is to be on the top of the MUST list at our Club. The Hacker, living just miles away in Grenoble will supervise the evening as a storyteller. He will remind us that there's a form of electronic music, a no bullshit and desperate hedonism kind of form.

Brendan M. Gillen on Drexciya

There is a revealing interview with Brendan M. Gillen of Ectomorph about Drexciya here which includes memories like, “After I received a promo of the first Drexciya on Submerge, I called Mike Banks to give him feedback, and ask if I could have them down for an interview on my then radio show “Crush Collision.” He told me he really appreciated the positive feedback but warned me that they were crazy and would talk about “fucking their mom and Madonna’s tits.” I thought that sounded great, funnier than Slayer’s image. When they eventually came down for an interview, we ran James’ voice through some processing, and Gerald showed up with his face painted half white, half black like that episode on the original Star Trek.
One time I went to visit the Drexciyan studio on the east side of Detroit, and when I walked into the basement I was greeted by Black Sabbath’s “War Pigs” at full volume. James, who had a poster of a young Malcom X behind him was wearing a paperclip chain hanging from his glasses, asked me if I was surprised. I was like “No, ‘Hydro Cubes,’ the first EP, so much heavy riffing.” Despite the fact that they were best defined by their funk influences combining with the synthesizer music of the late ‘70s and early ‘80s, especially Juan Atkins’ vision, I really loved how rock they were.”
Great video of Brendan talking about history of Detroit techno.

There is now an official video documenting Dopplereffekt’s Neutrino show in Liverpool from September 2011. It includes snippets of lectures and music.

There is a new Victoria Lukas mix up here and Zerkalo will be playing live at Raumd in Basel, Switzerland on 28th of Jan 2012. See local press for details.
