Dopplereffekt Eonfield 12", Der Zyklus s/t 12" re-press, Arpanet remix and more

There is a new two track Dopplereffekt 12" called Eonfield released on 26th June on the Skynet Cybersonix label (run by Robotron). You can listen to samples of 'Twilight Realm' and 'Limit Zero' and pre-order at this Juno link or Bandcamp. Limited to 200 copies.

There is a new Arpanet remix on the upcoming Shawescape Renegade 12" EP,  Exoframe, on Tresor Berlin. Shawescape Renegade  is producer and DJ from Detroit, Bandcamp here.

The self-titled Der Zyklus 12" EP, is for the first time being reissued on Clone Records' Aqualung label. It features four tracks from Der Zyklus I (1998) and II (2001). This package was first released by Frustrated Funk in 2006 and was last re-pressed by them in 2015 so a re-press is just about due for new and even some old fans. Bandcamp

In case you missed it, Der Zylkus' Truth Matrix 12" is out now on Bandcamp and elsewhere.

Currently Dopplereffekt have upcoming shows in Amsterdam, Belgium, Austria and a return to the US for shows in New York, Chicago and Philadelphia. Details for all here.

T.R.I.N.I.T.Y. Remixed (2006) by Cisco Ferreira/The Advent is now on the Tresor Bandcamp in digital. It includes the classic Heinrich Mueller remodel of 'Woman's Scent' along with remixes by Adam Beyer, Hertz and Chris Liebing.

You can watch the entire set from Dopplereffekt's recent show at the Encore Room, Kansas City,  Missouri (22nd May) on this YouTube channel.

The excellent Aphex Twin archive Lanner Chronicle sent me a link for an interview with Japan's Remix magazine where Richard D James talks about releasing Transllusion's L.I.F.E. on Rephlex and very interestingly planning to meet Gerald Donald in London (about early 2003) to discuss the possibility of bringing back Drexciya.

This might have been his own dream as he was a major fan but his label Rephlex did release Arpanet's Quantum Transposition two years later. Read the full interview at link.

"...I really like Detroit stuff, like the work of Jeff Mills and Underground Resistance, and also James Stinson of Drexciya recently passed away, and I think it’s really sad for us to have lost one of the greatest acts in Detroit. Right after James Stinson died, we released his second album under the name Transllusion called “L.I.F.E.” on Rephlex....It’s so dark and ominous, yet so captivating. I didn’t get it at all when I first heard it, but now I really, really like it. I’m currently in contact with Gerald Donald, one of the founding members of Drexciya, who now does Dopplereffekt and Der Zyklus. So, we’re trying to revive them and keep its original name...I’ll be meeting Gerald in London next week and we’ll spend some time together, so I think he’ll be able to make a decision then.”

Takeshi Natsuno, the inventor of the I-Mode mobile phone by NTT Do Co Mo is interviewed in this BBC Archive video first broadcast on The Money Programme in Feb 2000 (over two years before Arpanet's Wireless Internet album was released). This was the very early days of wireless internet technology and they really did not know if it would ever be popular to go online through your phone. (11 mins)

I came across 'Let Me Be Me' (1993) by Davina Bussey and yes, it shares the same name as the song by The Other People Place. It is a really nice track too, I wonder if James Stinson was referring to it? (listen here). Davina worked with Mad Mike Banks of UR in 1992 on the classic 'Don't You Want It?'. She has plenty of her own music too and is still making it today.

I wonder if Drexciya were referencing the Canadian aqua themed TV series Danger Bay (1984-1990) with their track of the same name on Bubble Metropolis EP (1993)? I'm sure they could have watched it from nearby Detroit, I'd love to think they were fans when they were young. Read more about it here.

New Drexciya interview archived from Jockey Slut 1999

One of my readers vey kindly sent a new to me Drexciya interview from Jockey Slut (Dec 1999) by Emma Warren. It's been a long time since another interview has surfaced, was beginning to think that was it.

James Stinson talks about the just released Neptune's Lair on Tresor Berlin and his plans for the millennium, UR and more. There is also a previously unseen illustration by Haqq, which fits in nicely with his original Neptune's Lair artwork. Very nice to read this at last. Check your old magazines for anything we've missed!

I've added it to the Drexciya Speaks post with all the other James Stinson interviews.

THE AQUA MARINES: THE WEB-FOOTED DETOITES WHO PUT THE "UNDERWATER" IN THE UNDERGROUND - DREXCIYA SPEAK!

Q: What words would you use to sum up Neptune's Lair?
Dimensional, progressive, umm, heavy vibes. Imagination and stimulation. We try to stimulate the mind and the imagination.

Q: What do you want people to get from your album?
The same thing they get when they open their minds to a new perspective. Do the things you feel like, be free, it kind of reminds me of the hippies (laughs) but those were creative days. Those people invented the computer, which are now running the world.

Q: Explain the aquatic gillmen theory that is frequently referenced in Drexciya releases
Water runs free, it runs wild, it can give life and take life and that's what we are about. We flow where we want to go. We like to keep moving.

Q: A lot of you Detroit contemporaries look to space for inspiration. What attracted you to water?
I don't follow others. If I was at the bottom of the ocean, I'd be the only person there because only I can go that deep. I try to open everybody else up and say go deep, dive inside yourself'. At the moment we're not using that much of our brains.

Q: How linked are you to UR?
I see myself as a military reserve. If we're needed, we'll be there. We are like Navy Seals. They might have their normal lives  doing the groceries and stuff, but once their pages go off...they're there!

Q: Would you travel on a plane on millennium eve?
Technically, yes, because I don't think anything's going to happen. I have faith that tells me that every other plane might fall out of the sky, but mine won't.

Q: What are you going to do on NYE?
I might run down the street butt naked. Go jump in the Detroit river. Join the Polar Bear club. It's a rush!

and we thought you were all serious Detroit electro freaks
Yeah - you got to have different perspectives in life. You got to take a break sometimes. When you come back, that's when you get fully passed up. That's what keeps ideas coming.

Q: What's next after Neptune's Lair?
After these few interviews you're not going to hear anything from us, apart from a steady flow of releases. We're going to go back into the studio and dig in deep until the other side of the millennium. What does the future hold? Who knows. Wherever the water takes us, we're going.
