I didn't want to rush against the concepts at all, just the mixing up was my point and the dopplereffekt thing just was an example.

imagine: if neo rauch wouldn't paint the way he paints, he would'nt be neo rauch. it doesn't matter how much somebody is into music. there will be always expectations. sure, obviously some people of that style of music we speak of, play with expectations.
that's ok, I should have less expects! the way anthony rother deals with is the right way of making art in my opinion!

http://www.litho.binary-marketing.de/img/neoengel.gif

dr. anonymousAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12593207.post-10572900310112846672009-03-03T20:46:00.000+00:002009-03-03T20:46:00.000+00:00May I add this, regarding the "early" work they've...May I add this, regarding the "early" work they've done. Even though I love it, I personally never have linked Dopplereffekt to their tunes from Gesamkunstwerk only. There's a thing that make me laugh about today's nerdy electronic music producers, they quite all of them claim Dopplereffekt being one of their most solid influences but they would never get into something as personal as Gerald does or would never take the time to produce highly atmospheric pieces of music for the very simple reason that the sale figures won't follow up. It just sounds even more nerdy for them to say that they've been pursuing the "I want to make love to a mannequin, I want to fuck it, I want to suck it" motto.
And i don't agree, the string theory is an actual theory. Scientists have not seen, i would say, "bare eyes" seen those extra dimensions contained in the Calabi-Yau spaces that make the string theory works. We need to see things happening before being sure that it makes sense. This is a fundamental of the scientific approach. And so Gerald contemplates the concept. What's wrong with composing music thinking about an axis of rotation, a calabi-yau manifold, etc... instead of thinking about summer, the bad day you had, ... The process remains the same, the theme are just more abstract.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12593207.post-56604903035052261782009-03-03T00:20:00.000+00:002009-03-03T00:20:00.000+00:00Just to answer a few of those points.I guess there...Just to answer a few of those points.

I guess there probably are people influenced by his later music to degree's, I'm just not aware of it.
I listened to that VCS2600 track and yeah I can hear the influence too.

Yeah the YoUTube thing is getting out of control, I prefer when an attempt is made to do a video as well, just posting the audio seems pointless, unless its really rare then maybe its ok. As far as copyright and all that, its probably dead wrong to do it but I guess it helps promote the music and I know people do discover them in this way. YouTube is like this great archive now and it will only get bigger and more complete.

Thats good info on identity of speaker on those radio show things, thanks.

Yeah, even my comments are long!
Next Time.Stephenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04488929204170416254noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12593207.post-63054105618597215692009-03-02T23:25:00.000+00:002009-03-02T23:25:00.000+00:001. great article! but some criticism: I don't like...1. great article! but some criticism: I don't like that whole youtube-thing. some months ago there was a good acceptable amount of stinson/donald tracks online. but today there are thousand of tracks on youtube. dunno, stephen. I don't support that!

2. I don't like gerald's mixing up of theory and music. first, he mixes different styles with different acts. everybody links dopplereffekt with that old harsh oldschool-electro. the next step was spacy ambient, a lot of people have misunderstood that. second, he mixes theory. arpanet was arpanet ones. then arpanet is "spacy string theory etc." - that makes no sense to me, sorry!

why a concept, if the concept isn't a concept? ok - he is the artist!true underground!

3. the speaker of arpanets "timeshifting" is dr. thomas naumann from dresden!

http://www-zeuthen.desy.de/~naumann/

dr. anonymousAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12593207.post-81060036825239617042009-03-02T20:53:00.000+00:002009-03-02T20:53:00.000+00:00Oh just so, I just figured out that the circular p...Oh just so, I just figured out that the circular picture featured on the actual cd, is what's (incorrectly, math-wise) called a "stereographic projection" of a 2D picture of a huge computer machine or misc measurement units.
To back the first comment, yes Muller's use of low pitched choirs has influenced a lot. The interesting thing is that he's been using those choirs as a bassline like in axis of rotation or most notably in "relativity" podcasted on CBS, when the "common" use would go for pad-like layers or backing layers. VCS2600 "deep sea robotics" features low pitched choirs layers in a very sub aquatic atmosphere.
It's always good to read your articles Stephen, your blog is such a valuable amount of resources for fellow deep sea dwellers ;)Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12593207.post-34206034489450853932009-03-02T19:43:00.000+00:002009-03-02T19:43:00.000+00:00Interesting analysis! It's true, there wasn't much press about this album, though I wrote a brief review at the time:

http://www.gridface.com/reviews/calabi_yau_space.html

If I remember correctly, Forced Exposure's U.S. press material referred to the group as a duo, so I kept up the "mystery."Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12593207.post-7306850845853324932009-03-02T19:17:00.000+00:002009-03-02T19:17:00.000+00:00There are plenty of music inspired by Gerald's cur...There are plenty of music inspired by Gerald's current style, mainly the harsh snares which have been copied to death, also the male choirs/chorus, since his tracks have so much going and they sound very different from each other you'll never hear a complete copy-cat but they are out there.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
